Washington County Library Unveils Plan to Open
WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah With the governor’s announcement that Utah will transition from high risk to moderate risk level on May 1st, we are excited to adjust our operations accordingly. Washington County Library System today announced that it will reopen with a three-tiered process starting May 1, 2020.
Commenting on this process, Commissioner Dean Cox stated, “Our libraries are wonderful facilitators for learning, creativity, and personal growth for our thriving community. We are excited to re-open them in a safe manner as quickly as possible.”
- Tier 1 – May 1, 2020: The libraries will be open during normal hours of operation, Monday through Friday for limited use. The limited use allows patrons to browse the material, check out items, and take those items home. It should be a come-and-go kind of visit that allows access to our collection but limits interaction with others. The goal should be a 15-minute visit. Social distancing, masks, and other flu prevention measures are still encouraged.
- Tier 2 – May 8, 2020: Library services will be expanded to allow for increased access to other resources within the library. Meeting rooms can be scheduled for small groups that can maintain effective social distancing. Computers can be scheduled for limited use, with preference given to those with the most critical need (job applications, school homework, and other official use). Gaming is not allowed during limited operations. Newspapers, magazines, and chairs will be redeployed. The goal should be about an hour visit. Come in, take advantage of the limited resources, but still be careful to prevent the transmission of viruses.
- Tier 3 – May 15, 2020: Library services will be fully reopened. Programming will be available again at this time. Full access to meeting rooms and computers will be given. Library staff will be cleaning often, but patrons should determine their own access to the public facilities.
Though we were excited to offer curbside service in lieu of no service, the current manning structure and the library phone system do not support continuing curbside in addition to the library opening. As a result, effective May 1st, curbside service will no longer be offered.
